This publication compiles insights from EleVATE, a program that offers group-based prenatal care with a curriculum designed by and for Black women. EleVATE stands for “elevating voices, addressing depression, toxic stress and equity.”
Racial disparities in the US are stark and are driven by barriers to care, social and economic factors, and the impact of systemic racism. EleVATE aims to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for Black women by engaging the community as a partner and it explores whether changing the way clinicians interact with patients can, in itself, improve outcomes and equity.
